Vodacom has been in the business since 1994 and has been one of the biggest mobile communication corporations in the world. So far, Vodacom has provided service to African regions, covering more than 40 countries in Africa alone. The company has viewed the lack of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) experts and skills in South Africa and they intend to bridge the market gap by providing more skilled workers and experts in the field. The bursary funding scheme alone was started in 1999 and since then financed more than 1000 programmes. The company is focusing in potential individuals with engineering and ICT skills coming from disadvantaged background or community.
So far, Vodacom is offering bursaries for information system, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, and any diplomas or degrees related to the study fields. Interested applicants should be the citizens of South Africa and below 25 years old – 25years old is the maximum standard. They have the intention to study in tertiary South African institutions full time and have minimum B for higher grade math and science.
